My old point-and-shoot Canon PowerShot finally bit the dust. But, it died in the most beautiful way. Instead of taking photos it now creates these beautiful aurora borealis-ish blurs. I think this is the best way possible for a camera to break. Don’t you?

I love your comments more than I love chocolate (almost).

amazing! it’d almost be a shame to fix it.
LOL!!
Aw, it’s trying to be artistic! It’s dying with such dignity.
Looks like the a problem with the CCD sensor. If you are at all interested in looking at a possible fix you may want to read through http://canoncanada.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4304 It’s an old posting but I’ve read great responses from people who have had their cameras repaired in the recent past. Good luck.
I’m a new fan of your blog, you’ve got a great eye. RIP to your canon, it ended so gracefully. I had a CF card die in a similar way, check it out: http://accidentalcliche.blogspot.com/2009/04/cf-error.html
Wow, those look like masterpieces to me. I would love a print of each. : )
COOL!
Do the colors change with what it’s focused?
Do different zoom levels or focal points change the picture?
Looks like it would be fun to play with for a while.
The camera doesn’t even attempt to focus now. Zooming and focal points don’t change anything. The only thing that seems to make a difference is how much light there is. If I don’t aim the camera directly at a light source the photos come out almost all black with just a few purple stripes. One of the above pics is of our Christmas tree, and another is of bumper cars at the fair, and another is of a light bulb in a lamp. It is definitely cool!
those look amazing, any chance your feeling generous & would like to throw this graphic designer the full res images? would be much appreciated!
Wow I wish I had an only camera that would die and do that! Thats almost better then an alive camera.
Nice. Keep your camera. Can you affect the colors with different subjects/lighting conditions? Can you post these at full resolution somewhere so we can use them as desktop images?
Rad, and thanks!
those look soooo cool!!!!!!
How fantastical! Would be great blown up and put on a wrap-around canvas and hung as artwork in a hallway. I might just try and recreate that effect!
Oh, I actually just got my Canon PowerShot camera fixed around 6 months ago. Canon did everything for free (bless their customer service!) and ship it back to me. I think your problem could be the CCD sensor problem because I got similar images when mine died. It’s now as good as new again!
Totally amazing! Is purple the only color you get? I agree with abigail… Don’t have it fixed ;)
