Dry Roasted Chickpeas

January 19th, 2010

I love chickpeas in any form, and a few weeks ago I discovered that they can be roasted. You can season these any way you like and they will be delicious (and good for you)! Come on try it. How could you not love something called a “chickpea”?

dry roasted chickpeas recipe

1 can of chickpeas aka garbanzo beans
sea salt
garlic powder
fresh ground black pepper
cayenne pepper
cumin
any other seasonings you want

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F. Drain, rinse, and blot the chickpeas dry. Grease a baking pan and dump the chickpeas in. Season to taste, and give the pan a good shake to make sure all the chickpeas have been spiced. Bake for 30–40 minutes shaking the pan every 10 minutes or so. Watch very closely at the end to make sure you don’t burn them. They will shrink a bit and get darker when they are done. Feel free to taste test them a few times until they are nice and crunchy all the way through.

Do you store these in the fridge or just in a tightly-covered container?

I stored mine in a tightly-covered container on the counter, but they were only around a day or two before I had eaten them all. :)

Chickpeas are yummy, especially with the cumin I also put a little extra cumin because I think the flavor meshes well together! Enjoy and thanks for sharing!

I love your comments more than I love chocolate (almost).
