New Favorite Cookbook

January 21st, 2011

I have no idea who Jamie Oliver is, but the recipes in this book are delicious. Well, I guess I can’t vouch for all of them since I haven’t made them all yet, but the 5 or 6 I’ve tried were scrumptious! So far Chicken Korma and Chicken and Leek Stroganoff (which only takes 20 minutes to make!) are my favorites. There are quite a few lamb and fish recipes that will force me outside of my chicken and beef comfort zone, and the recipes call for lots of fresh ingredients which makes me happy. By the way, have you ever cooked with fresh ginger? I hadn’t before I got this cookbook. Fresh ginger blew my taste buds’ minds! Seriously, you should pick up a copy.

  1. Mmm that last salmon dish looks excellent!

I love that cookbook! Jamie Oliver is actually quite a TV personality. He just recently finished a season of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution on ABC. Half the season is on Hulu. I highly recommend you watch it. It especially gave me insight into what eating habits we’re all learning and then passing on to the children in our lives.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the cookbook!

Oh sweet, I’ll check it out Bethany. Thanks!

I am so happy to hear that I’m not the only person living in the chicken and beef comfort zone! I may have to branch out with this cook book, looks great!

Jamie Oliver is my personal cooking hero. He has done wonderful things in the world of food (cleaning up England’s school lunches, sustained agro initiatives, trying to get Americans to eat healthy), and he was even awarded the TED prize this year. I have been doing a Julia and Julia type cooking experiment with another of his cookbooks and have yet to find a single dish that wasn’t exquisite. You won’t be disappointed if you purchase all of his other cookbooks.

I will definitely add his other cookbooks to my wishlist. : )

I’ve been interested in learning more about Jamie Oliver ever since I saw a couple episodes of The Food Revolution. It’s so great that he’s actually making a change! Good to know he can actually make good food too. ;)

  9. I’ll have to check this one out! One of my favorite cookbooks is Jamie’s Dinners. I love how wholesome the recipes are… it’s always stuff I can imagine cooking for my future children. I know that might sound funny, but it’s true! Good, solid, real food!!

  10. Watching Jamie’s Food Revolution on TV definitely helped *revolutionize* some of my slack in cooking habits, especially in thinking about our kids. He is amazing. He taught me how to cut open an avocado in about 5 seconds! (you can look up the video). Good to know his cookbook is out with a good review! I can’t wait to check it out!

  11. I must have almost 60 cookbooks (I collect them, yes I’m weird), but Jamie’s are among my favorites. I love how he switches up the look of his books so you never get sick of the layouts. Not to mention the most important thing: Delicious recipes. Have you checked out his magazine? Since the end of Gourmet, it’s now my favorite.

Vanessa – Ooo he has a magazine too? I’ll have to check it out!

Jamie is awesome! He does really fun Christmas specials almost every year in the UK and this year they were playing them in the States on BBC America. His website is also worth a look, he has loads of really great recipes there for free.

I love your comments more than I love chocolate (almost).
