Painting #2

June 28th, 2011

Here’s painting number two for my class. For this assignment I had to choose an artist I admire, and do a painting incorporating aspects of his or her work. We were told to take the assignment as literally or as figuratively as we wished. I chose to take it quite literally, because I have a huge crush on Yellena James. I think I identify with her work because its stream-of-consciousness vibe reminds me of my doodle filled sketchbooks (except a million times better). Yellena’s pieces are done in pen, ink, and marker, so trying to achieve her level of detail with a brush was challenging. I certainly got a lot of practice painting with a teeny tiny brush!
