Painting #4

July 12th, 2011

I promised to share my weekly paintings for my class whether they look good or not, and unfortunately this painting is a NOT! Last week I was reminded of why I often prefer working digitally rather than by hand. I need the undo button!

The assignment was to incorporate a few of the composition principles we learned into a painting, so I chose “keep an odd number of elements that vary in size” and “add rhythm.” I really preferred this painting before I added the brown (luckily I snapped a photo at that point), but I felt like it looked unfinished and needed more depth. Just for the record, smearing brown paint everywhere will not give you depth!

  1. I don’t think your second painting is bad! I will admit, I like the first one better though. Your ideas are soo fun, love!

  2. I wouldn’t be so hard on yourself, it’s still really cool! Like the other person that commented, I have to say I like the “when i should have stopped painting” one best, but the final one is amazing too. That’s what second attempts are for, right? =)

The second one looks like the outer teardrops are vibrating so more movement in that one. I like them both for different reasons. The first one looks fresh clean and light, like summer, the second like autumn. So they are seasonal. :)

I love your sketchbooks so much! I am a writing utensil nerd, so I was wondering what type of pens you typically use?

Its not that bad. But yes the first one is better. Just make another one :)

  6. i totally know how you feel. i dod a painting for a Moroccan fundraiser and thought i’d keep going, when i should have stopped long ago. but yours both look great !

I love your comments more than I love chocolate (almost).
