I had been wanting to get a juicer for awhile, and I finally went through with it. I have trouble deciding what to eat for lunch each day, so I was hoping to be able to throw a bunch of fruits and veggies in the juicer and drink my lunch. I made my first attempt at juicing today, and unfortunately this concoction wasn’t exactly delicious. It had a bile-like aftertaste, and it was definitely a hold-my-nose-and-gulp-it-down situation. Maybe it’s an acquired taste?
Somehow I managed to cut myself when I was cleaning the juicer. I couldn’t figure out where all the red juice was coming from, and it turned out to be finger juice!
Have you had tastier results with your juicer? Please share your secrets with me!

To get this lovely shade of green I juiced:
a few handfuls of spinach
4 stalks of celery
1 cucumber
2 granny smith apples
½ lemon
ginger root (thumb sized)

I’m curious what kind of juicer you bought. I’m researching one for our home currently.

Can’t wait to see how your next juicing adventure goes!
Thanks for the link Meghan! I ended up getting the Breville BJE200XL http://tinyurl.com/3elbhj4 I figured I couldn’t go wrong with 389 five star customer reviews! I like it a lot so far. It’s easy to clean and seems really powerful.
I’ve been juicing and making green smoothies (another excellent lunch idea) for years! I’d cut back on the celery to start. One of my favorite combinations is carrot, spinach, ginger, and lemon. You can add an orange for a little sweetness, too. Cucumbers juice well (they are delicious paired with watermelon juice). There are so many options; it’s just too exciting!
I happened to have watermelon and cucumber on hand, and you’re right! They taste great juiced together. Thanks for all the tips!
There is a documentary out that swears by juicing called Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. I have found some recipes under their program that I’m dying to try out but haven’t started yet… maybe you’ll have some luck there? Here is the link – http://jointhereboot.com/reboot-program/the-reboot-standard/during-your-reboot-standard/.
I just watched that documentary! That was what finally convinced me to go ahead and get a juicer. I hadn’t seen jointhereboot.com yet—thanks!
I’ve been juicing since 1997—There are so many great variations-If you want to stick to veggies, try cuke/celery/small red beet or carrot/lemon/ginger….Once you get more bold, throw in cilantro (it takes the heavy metals out of your body) and garlic (I know, I know)–which is a fantastic anti-bacterial…Happy juicing and it is fantastic for your skin–I’m 53 and people always comment on my skin–It’s the juicing!
Thanks for sharing your wisdom Diana! I don’t know if my husband would approve of the garlic, but I love it so I’ll have to give it a try. ;)
I’ve been juicing for about 6 months now and it really does make a tremendous difference in how I feel on a daily basis. I do green juice as well but a little different than yours. 6 kale leaves, 1 cucumber, 4 celery stalks, 2 green pears, 1 green apple, 1 lemon, a 1/4″ knob of ginger. The pear/apple combo in there makes it smoother/sweeter/and much nicer to drink. That fills up a good sized thermos and last me breakfast, lunch, and 2 snacks. I eat a small portion of whatever dinner I then make for the family!
I definitely second the thought that adding apples or pears makes MOST juiced better! My current favorite is one made with 2 green apples, half a canteloupe, about four handfuls of baby spinach and half a lemon. It makes about 20 oz.! Also, peach-apple-ginger is really good. I just bought kale to try something with it! :)
Every morning I make the same juice for my husband and I every morning just before leaving for work: Just two apples (crisp and juicy like fuji) and 10 carrots (the ones that are selled still with their green frilly tops still attached). Delicious!
Interesting. I’m thinking it was the spinach that threw off the taste. Everything else is a pretty clean sort of flavor. I love ginger!
