I did it! My hair is pink! It’s not quite as cool as The Beauty Department’s version since I skipped the bleaching step and used one color instead of four. But hey, it was my first time dying my own hair, so I’m proud that I grew a sack and did it. Next time I’d like to try pink with deep purple or navy mixed in there. I got a little dye-happy and wanted to make the dogs’ tails pink too, but Daniel interceded on their behalf.
I used Punky Semi-Permanent Colour Cream in flamingo pink. It smells delicious—like grapes or Dimetapp! The color should wash out in 5–40 washes.

the color is pretty, but your waves are even prettier! what’s your secret? are they natural?
I WISH they were natural! I wash my hair at night, and braid it while it is still damp before I go to bed. Then in the morning I take the braids out and add a few more waves with my clip-less stick curling iron. It’s quick and easy since the braids do most of the work! :)
I was thinking the same thing! Gorgeous curls! I usually do a messy bun to get a wave, but will start the braid, since my results are wildcards. Either nailing it or totally crappy! Do you do just a single braid or two?
I do two braids—one behind each ear. Hopefully it works well with your hair too!

You are so brave! It looks GREAT. I did a little purple streak once upon a time but I’m loving the ends. I think it’s just going to get better and better when it starts to wash out and gets lighter and pastel looking.

I liked the Punky semi-permanent color—it wasn’t permanent. I’m not sure what would show up best in dark hair, since I’ve never tried it on dark hair. :)

It wasn’t nearly as scary – or as angsty-teenager-looking – as I thought it would be! What a great way to have a little fun with one’s hair. Your hair looks about the same color as mine. Now that some time has passed since this post, did you find it did wash out completely eventually? And how many washes did it take for you?
It faded quite a bit after a month, but then I had a hair cut scheduled so the rest of the color was cut off before I saw how long it took to fade completely.
