Piano Nook

September 16th, 2011

There has been some curiosity about the loft area above our living room. Well, here it is—my piano nook. I’ve been hacking away at Clair de Lune for a while. So far I can only play the first page very slowly. 5 flats! Sheesh Debussy, cut me some slack.

Mabel was pretty adamant about being in the pictures, and she promised to hold still.

Look at my pitiful Aloe plant! That’s what happens if you move it too far away from the window and never water it. Oops.

  1. ahhh lovely! we have a piano, but no room for a nook, so it’s sadly getting sold, probably tonight :( if i had a space for it, i’d probably practice every day! one day, we’ll make room for a new piano in our future house.

  2. I love how you decorate – its beautiful! Your dog is so cute! What type of dog is she?
I just got given a piano and am moving it into my new house! I’m so excited. If only I had a cute little nook to put it in… =)

What kind of piano is that? My wife and I are looking for something low profile like that for our house… I would love to get back to playing.

It’s an old Yamaha Clavinova we found on Craigslist. I love how compact it is, and it’s so nice to be able to use headphones!

Nice nook! Your Aloe plant is not alone, mine is near a window but leans the same way and is sparce too. Hmm, maybe mine would like some water. :)

  5. Oh this makes me excited for my re-do of my music room! (I’m a music teacher). Right now it has olive green walls and orange accents – very CB2 from a few years ago. I decided it’s too dark for me now and want to paint it a light gray. I love how bright and airy your nook looks! And I’m finally getting a real piano to replace the electric one. Call me old fashioned, but I just love real pianos. And this one is from the 50′s. Even cooler :)

Light grey is my current favorite wall color! Check out Martha Stewart’s “Sharky Grey” at Home Depot. It’s one of the only greys I’ve used that doesn’t end up looking blue. I definitely agree that real pianos are best if you have the room. Good luck with the music room re-do! :)

I LOVE the idea of a piano nook – the only downside is I don’t think I would ever come out, which might be considered antisocial…
and I love what you’ve done with the collage above it. I feel like Debussy would fit right in.

By the way, if you think of it as 2 unflatted notes (F and C) as opposed to 5 flatted notes, it gets a lot easier. :)

What caught my eye is the mirror…..did you paint the flowers on it yourself?

Hmm… I don’t have a mirror over the piano. There’s an empty ornate frame, and a rose screen print that I sell in my shop here: http://www.etsy.com/transaction/60464542 (It’s currently sold out but I’ll be listing more prints soon.) One of those might look mirror-ish in the photo. :)

I love your comments more than I love chocolate (almost).
