#9 Canoeing Date

October 19th, 2011

Well, I can cross #9 off my Twelve by 2012 list—Daniel and I went canoeing last weekend at a nearby lake. Paddling around the lake was all right, but at the far side we found a hidden stream. It was very shallow and blocked by tree branches in many places, but trying to see how far we could make it upstream was so much fun. We didn’t see a whole lot of wildlife (probably because Daniel kept yelling “RAMMING SPEED!” every time we approached a log blocking our path), but the scenery was beautiful. Just think, we would have missed this entire experience if I hadn’t made my list last week!

I found another owl pellet! I think I must have a strange talent for spotting those.

Very nice. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy it.

  3. Yay for crossing off #9! Looks like you had a lovely time. I did a lot of canoeing up in Cape Cod. Somehow we always managed to find ourselves on the outside of the canoe.

Uhoh, that’s not good! In spite of all the ramming we have yet to tip the canoe over. Whew.

I laughed as I pictured Daniel yelling,”Ramming Speed!” Glad you had such a good time. And you do find the most interesting things.

  6. I took a canoeing class my senior year of high school as a phys ed elective and fell in LOVE. I’m so jealous!

  7. The “ramming speed” comment cracked me up!! My whole life my dad and two brothers have thrown that around when various objects block our paths.

Me: There’s a log ahead, Ramming speed!
Amanda: Honey, it’s not going to work
    Me: Ramming speed!
Amanda: Ahh we’re not going to make it!
    Me: Ramming speed!

    And then we made it.
