A while back I started reminiscing about this awesome rubber dinosaur I had as a kid. I’m not sure why it was so memorable, but I could recall every bump of its reptilian skin and the strange rubber smell it emitted. Sure enough I found one on ebay. I got it into my head that I wanted to buy it, spray paint it gold, and put it on display somewhere around the house. I waited a few weeks for this strange idea to pass, but it never did. So I went through with my plan. Tell the truth—do you think I’m good crazy or bad crazy?

goodcrazy, definitely!
What a cute idea! I love dinosaurs; golden dinosaurs are doubly awesome.
Grrrreat crazy! The stegosaurus was always my favorite as well!

I love it. I never had a dinosaur though. I wonder what it would look like with a my little pony? The hair would probably get in the way…
Ooo that could be cool. If you have one with golden hair you could mask off the hair and just paint the body. :)
Wow, what a great crazy idea by a great crazy artist. So Cool!
Awesome crazy!
I’ve seen this on another blog before-can’t find the link, but they created birthday candle holders with golden dinosaurs. This is really weird you posted this now, because this past weekend I just made my best friend golden dinosaur-topped wine stoppers for Christmas! they turned out so fantastic that I had to make some for myself too!
ah-ha! the link that was my inspiration! http://www.thesweetestoccasion.com/2011/08/diy-party-animal-candles/
I love that!! Now I need to find more stuff to paint! :)
Love it ! We love painted plastic animals.
Steggy! My son shouldn’t mind if I steal one of these and do the same.
Clever idea!!
Definitely good crazy. We sell a few glitter covered ornaments in the shop I work at (flying pigs and reindeer) and I have been inspired to create my own. I found various trinkets (some plastic animals and some odd christmas ornaments) that I am going to spray paint silver and then paint with glitter glue for some added holiday sparkle.
That is such a great idea! I’m going to have to try it next year.
You have a case of fabulous crazy in my book and if there’s a medication for it….don’t take it! I love, love love this idea and think they silver and gold dinosaurs would make a great dinosaur party centerpiece. Or even better…imagine if two paleontologists were to marry, how cute would the reception centerpieces look with white tulle, twinkle lights and gold dinosaurs?
Hahaha! I would love to plan a paleontologist wedding! :)
good crazy for sure. it meant something to you, good memories. So does it make you smile every time you see it in your home? I know it would make me smile if I did something similar. :)
Excellence… on ice.
I too had a dinosaur like this when I was young, so I love love love this idea! You should upload a photo of it out on display!
I put my golden dinosaur on top of my bookshelf. :) You can see it in this photo: http://witandwhistle.com/2012/01/25/etsy-featured-seller/
I love it! I did this with a whole pack of tiny rubber horses I found at a party store in the fall, they turned out so cute and I handed them out to each of my girlfriends. I’ve had a rubber dino around the house for a while and I painted him over winter break with glossy white paint (left over from painting the trim in my bedroom) after thinking about it forever and he turned out very classy :)
