Typography Sketchbooks

In my quest to improve my hand lettering skills I purchased a copy of Typography Sketchbooks by Steven Heller and Lita Talarico. It’s filled with page after page of gorgeous lettering from the sketchbooks of over 90 talented designers. I’m so glad I added this amazing inspirational resource to my bookshelf. I don’t think it will be gathering dust anytime soon!

This looks like a fantastic reference book! I too want to improve my handwriting as well as my typography skills. I was hoping to learn more in my recent typography class, but didn’t so I’m always on the look-out for good reference books like this.

This is going on my Christmas list big time. Have you ever taken any calligraphy courses, or found any particular calligraphy books helpful, Amanda? I’d love to get any recommendations you have!

I haven’t taken any any calligraphy classes, but I would if I could find one around here! I actually found this book while searching for “how to” calligraphy/hand lettering books. All the ones I’ve come across so far seem pretty dated and only teach very traditional style lettering. I’ll keep looking and let you know if I find any good ones!

I love decorative hand lettering and this book looks amazing (so does your blog)! I found you through Pinterest and happened to see that we live in the same town! The Town Parks & Rec Dept. usually has Calligraphy classes and they will be starting up again around August – check the Program Brochure when it comes out!

For those looking for a good calligraphy “how to” book –
I recommend Eleanor Winter’s “Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy, A Step by Step Manual”. This book was recommended to me by the very talented Mara of Neither Snow, and I have found it very helpful in learning calligraphy :)

I will definitely be purchasing that—thanks for the recommendation!
