Baby Birds (Round 2)

June 29th, 2012

We have another family of Carolina Wrens living in our kitchen window box! I wasn’t going to bombard you with photos (since I thoroughly documented the last family of wrens from eggs, to goofy looking chicks, to the day they left the nest), but yesterday they did something so bizarre that I had to get my camera. All four of the chicks wobbled out of the nest and set up camp at the edge of the window box. Last time around the chicks didn’t take one step outside the nest until the day they left for good, and these babies are still half featherless and definitely not ready to leave yet. I guess they got too hot snuggled up in there. It really threw mama bird for a loop, and she searched the empty nest several times before finding them.

  1. Melts my heart! SO glad you shared. Lovely way to start a weekend! :)

  2. these birds are so cute. I wish the birds in my garden would make there nests a bit closer to my window so I could see them. they usually build nest in the back of my garden in the highest tree. I think my cat is one of the reasons why.

  3. Perfection! So glad you shared since I only recently stumbled upon your blog and thus missed previous documentation of the winged babes. Oh my gosh, their fluffy little heads!

They all left the nest yesterday. My husband and I got to watch all four of them make the jump from the window box to the ground! I’m a little sad that they are gone, but it was awesome to see.
