3 Favorite Beauty Products

March 6th, 2013

I still use the same cheap powder foundation that I’ve worn since high school, because I haven’t found anything that works better. However, it seems that with some beauty potions the “you get what you pay for” mantra holds true. These are my three favorite splurges—now tell me yours!

top three favorite beauty products

Fekkai Protein RX Hair Mask: The ends of my long hair can get dry and brittle, but this mask completely transforms my hair. I use it once a week, and my hair feels like silk. No joke. Bonus: It’s the best smelling thing I’ve ever slathered onto my head.

Lancôme Undereye Concealer: I have raccoon-ish under eye circles no matter how well rested I am. I think my skin is so pale that it’s a little bit transparent, so you can see my innards right through it. This concealer works better than any other I’ve tried, and I’ve tried so many. It does a great job hiding blemishes too. A tube lasts me about a year and half with daily use.

Argan Oil: I posted a while back about using argan and Jojoba oil on my face at night. Argan oil won. It soaks in quickly doesn’t leave my skin greasy like the Jojoba oil did. I almost never break out anymore, and my skin stays perfectly moisturized. I even use it around my eyes and a smooth few drops into my hair to tame any frizzies. You can buy a tiny brand name bottle of Argan oil from Sephora for an arm and a leg, or you can do what I did and get a big 8oz bottle from Rose Mountain Herbs that will last forever.

For the boys: Daniel’s favorite only “beauty” products are Chapstick, Gold Bond Lotion (with Aloe), and Axe Deoderant.

  1. I bought what I thought was Argan oil from Amazon and found it had silicone. I am so excited to see that there is an organic Argan oil. I bought it to help calm the frizz in my hair. It turns it from a Brillo pad into silky straight tresses.

I’m wondering now how I was duped but I can’t wait to order the real deal. Thank you so much for sharing! I’m also interested in checking out your concealer. Lisa Eldridge recommends Clinique’s AirBrush but I was never happy when I sampled it.

My splurge? We’re on a tight budget and I’d kill to just be able to buy any high end skin care set. I’m using an inexpensive moisturizer and I can tell the difference.

  2. I love hearing what works well for others! I just started using jojoba oil on my face… but it’s good to know that argan oil works better for you. I’m hoping that a natural approach will result in better skin! ++crossing fingers++

  3. i rarely use anything other than coconut oil. i put it on my (curly and oh so dry) hair, i put in on my face, i put in on my lips, and right now i put it on my brows! because i decided i needed thicker brows so i’m growing them, which is so. so. so. awkward (but i’m getting there). my favourite lip balm is hand made by a friend and it smells like heaven, i swear. the main ingredient is… you guessed it, coconut oil.
recently i decided i need a bb cream just in case, but i still don’t know if i like it a lot or is it just okay, but it’s not that expensive, so i guess it’s going to be just okay.

the other favourite is this lipstick, it’s the best for when i want bold lips: http://www.chanel.com/en_CA/fragrance-beauty/Makeup-Lipsticks-ROUGE-ALLURE-110670?sku=110707 in shade 79, impertinente. what the hell is this name, right. but it’s a great lipstick!

  4. Amy

I have a sample size of argan oil that i haven’t quite figured out how to use, so i just put it straight on my skin and rub it in? Anything to help the dried out AND oily skin i have would be fabulous! :)
    Great suggestions!

Yes, just rub it right in! I usually do one drop around each eye and then four or five for the rest of my face and neck.

  5. Diana from Cary

Love this post! I am having those same wrinkle feelings – ugh. Dave’s stepfather works in a derm office and recommended Glo products (after I had a crazy allergic reaction to Neutrogena Naturals). I bought some of their lotion and like it so far. My go to splurge though is normally anything Bobbi Brown!

  6. Thank you so much! I love the list. I think those are three things I need, too. Nothing too over-the-top!

  7. Christy

Clarins Blue Orchid Oil is great for your face too…use it at night and/or in the winter when your skin is more dry. Love the way it smells too.

I use coconut oil and argan oil for my hair, but I’ve never tried argan oil on my skin. I’ll have to try it! Thanks for your tips!

  8. Thanks for the Argan Oil recommendation! I was going to buy the expensive version at Sephora, but I’m so glad to have found a cheaper and organic version. Thanks again!

  9. I have been using that Lancome concealer for 18 years. It is great.

  10. I have a logn hair but it is very rough. After see your post i want to try Fekkai Protein RX Hair Mask can any boddy tell me from where i can buy this.

I love your comments more than I love chocolate (almost).
