Summertime Love List

May 8th, 2014

It was pretty hot out today, but that was just a hint of what’s to come this summer. I’m not a summer person, and I always tell Daniel that we should be nomadic and swap hemispheres as the seasons change. Perpetual fall/winter would be so perfect!

If I listed my least favorite things about summer, I’d be so convincing that you’d probably never be able to enjoy it again. So instead I’ll let you live on in blissful ignorance with this list of all my favorite things about summer. A little optimism and I’m feeling better about the impending heat already!

What do you love most about summertime?

  1. Where are the lighting bugs at! This will be my second summer living in North Carolina and I want to see some. Do I need to go to the woods?

  2. Where I live, it’s always humid and hot, so perpetual autumn sounds pretty great! One of the (few) things I like about summer weather is that you can leave the house without having to bundle up.

  3. - Brewing sun tea
    - Bird baths
    - That hour between 6-7AM when it’s cool and bright out, but the world hasn’t woken up yet

outdoor theatre performances, picnics, bike rides, long holidays, ice cream, music festivals, swimming outdoors…

  5. Ok you make the 3rd blogger I follow who is based out of NC (just realizing this now). I am applying for a job there and I really hope I get it. It looks like a great place to live!

I’ve never lived anywhere else, so I don’t have anything to compare it to! Although, almost all my friends relocated here from elsewhere in the country, so it must be a great place to live! ;)

  6. Oh I’m so with you, summer is my least favourite season. Give me autumn, winter and spring every year then just skip right through to autumn again! I do enjoy the sandal wearing and ice cream eating though so I guess summer isn’t completely awful …

Your blog is so inspiring! And I love your carddesigns and drawings so much!!! – just wanted to say this once, because I never comment your posts, I just quietly appreciate them ;)

    • Amanda (wit & whistle)

Thank you so much Aly, and thank you for commenting! It’s so good to know you are out there keeping up with my posts. :)

  8. I love this. Those are my favorites too. Minus the lightening bugs, but only because I have never seen them. This year, it’s time!

I’m not going to lie. I am NOT looking forward to summer here either. It’s hot and sticky with TONS of mosquitos. Summer in Southern California is a whole other story. It’s dreamy. Long days at 80 degrees (no bugs or humidity).

You’ll have tons of lightning bugs in your yard! I can’t imagine an 80 degree summer with no bugs or humidity. That summer I think I would like! Speaking of mosquitos, I just hired a company to spray our yard for them. Supposedly they come every 3 weeks and you won’t have mosquitos in your yard all summer. I’ll let you know if it works!

Comments on the book post were closed, but I just wanted to let you know how excited I was to see you had contributed to a book that looks like some process-oriented content. It looks awesome! Can’t wait for my order to get to me. Congratulations Amanda!

We moved to the Phoenix, AZ, area about nine months ago, so we’re coming up on our first summer in one of the hottest cities on the planet…yikes…but, you know, it’s a dry heat :-P Corn on the cob and watermelon, peaches, figs, and berries are some of my favorite things about summer. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for some new ones. It’s always good to be on the lookout for reasons to be thankful :)

    • Amanda (wit & whistle)

I can’t imagine dry heat—hopefully it’s better! I feel like heat + humidity makes it so hard to breath. Let me know how it goes! Your summer list makes me want to have a cookout. :)

  11. Hi Amanda,
I love your photos. Such great clicks. What lens do you use?
    Thanks!
