Consider the Persimmon

February 2nd, 2010

I love the section of the grocery store with the weird fruit. Have you ever had a persimmon? I haven’t, so I got one. I was expecting it to be like a tomato inside, but it wasn’t at all. It had the texture of a firm peach but with it’s own unique sweet taste. But, where are the seeds? That’s what I want to know!

I love persimmons! They are one of my favorite fruits. The seeds form at the center, and they are flat and much bigger than apple seeds! I have no idea why some of them have seeds and others don’t though.. Oh, and there are soft persimmons just like soft peaches! Soft persimmons are really good when you freeze them and eat them like ice cream.

I love persimmons! they make cookies and breads, and persimmon butter-like apple butter-is delicious, and the small fuyu persimmons like the one you show are great in salads. .there is a bigger variety call hachiya (i use the bigger ones for cooking, but the smaller ones for eating raw or in salads because they are less astringent)

Yum! Note to self: find soft persimmons for freezing and find persimmon butter!

Just make sure they are ripe. A persimmon which is eaten before its time will do strange things to your lips and tongue.

We’ve got a couple persimmon trees nearby, sometimes my Mom makes persimmon bread that’s pretty darn good ^^

What is a paw paw? It sounds like a kind of doughnut!
