We’re traveling home from New Zealand today! Actually it’s taking us two days to get home, but because of the time zone changes we’ll squeeze it all into one day. I still don’t quite understand how that works, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same as time travel. Awesome. The shop will reopen tomorrow (or [...]

Happy Thanksgiving! I started sketching some Thanksgiving card ideas earlier this year, but never followed through on them. There’s always next year! You know, I don’t like turkey nearly as much as I like mashed potatoes and gravy. What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

A while back I got this copperplate calligraphy instruction book by Eleanor Winters. After flipping through it, I realized I would need one of those funky-looking oblique pens to achieve the super skinny and big fat lines characteristic of copperplate. I just got the pen, and it’s so strange! Using it is like learning to [...]

Here’s my final lettering practice post! These 5 weeks flew by, didn’t they? I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my process. I think I have improved a lot since week 1, and that makes me just a little bit giddy! I’ve fallen in love with hand lettering, so I imagine my sketchbook pages will be filled [...]

I’ve been working on my holiday cards this week—figuring out which designs from last year I’m keeping, and coming up with some new offerings too. I’m pondering making this sketch into a postcard printed on heavy brown kraft card stock. I think someone might like to send Christmas postcards rather than traditional folded cards with [...]

I have an ever-growing list of greeting card ideas on my laptop. Some of them are quite terrible, but there are a few keepers in the mix too. I write all my ideas down, even the bad ones (just in case they spark something better later). This weekly lettering assignment is great motivation for me [...]

I’m still honing my hand lettering skills, so I’m going to post a bit of my work each Friday for the next 5 weeks (like I did with gouache a few months back). Does anybody want to practice with me? :) If anyone wants to practice along with me and share your progress, I made [...]

Who’s ready for fall? I’ve never designed Halloween goodies before (well, except these postcards years ago), so I’ve been playing in my sketchbook to see what I can come up with. I’m not sure yet which of these will become cards, and which will just stay in my sketchbook. I also messed around with gouache [...]

I ran out of blank pages in my sketchbook, so I picked up a new one today. In college I had a professor who required us to decorate our sketchbook covers, and I’m going to start doing that again. Since I’ve had Danni’s washi tape notebook in the back of my mind for a while, [...]
