Fresh Figs

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on July 2nd, 2012 under Recipes Tags: , , , , ,  •  36 Comments

Before today I had never eaten a fresh fig. I’d been wanting to try one for a long time (since I figured Fig Newtons probably didn’t do them justice), but whenever I found them for sale they were all smooshy and rotten. Finally I found some ripe figs to try. It turns out that after [...]

Triple Berry Crisp

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on June 27th, 2012 under Recipes Tags: , , , , ,  •  15 Comments

Summer is definitely not my favorite season, but all the sweet, ripe fruit available this time of year helps make up for it. I can’t decide which I enjoyed more—photographing these gleaming berries or gobbling up my first piece of delicious triple berry crisp. This recipe is a keeper. I’m going to munch on this all [...]

Cookie Cutter Fruit Salad

Last week I stumbled across this image, and I immediately volunteered to bring a fruit salad to our friends’ Independence Day cookout. Champagne Grapes

I love trying new fruits! These are called champagne grapes, so naturally I thought they would taste like champagne. They actually just taste like regular grapes. Delicious, but not as bubbly as I imagined. I like to pretend I’m a giant when I’m eating them.

Sketchbook Friday 2.26.10

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on February 26th, 2010 under Creative Tags: , , , , ,  •  3 Comments

I sketched some fruit and veggie cross sections—possibly because I feel guilty for skipping the gym all week. How can kiwis be so delicious but look so vomitous? Hair on fruit is all wrong.

Consider the Persimmon

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on February 2nd, 2010 under Recipes Tags: , , , ,  •  11 Comments

I love the section of the grocery store with the weird fruit. Have you ever had a persimmon? I haven’t, so I got one. I was expecting it to be like a tomato inside, but it wasn’t at all. It had the texture of a firm peach but with it’s own unique sweet taste. But, [...]
