Masala Tea

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on January 16th, 2013 under Recipes Tags: , , , , ,  •  16 Comments

Remember in the fall when I was raving about the cocoa chai rooibos I got from DavidsTea? Well, since then I tried masala chai at our favorite Indian restaurant, and it put my cocoa chai to shame. I got home and immediately started scouring the internets for the secret to making my own. I found [...]

Mom’s Chex Mix

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on October 23rd, 2012 under Recipes Tags: , , , ,  •  10 Comments

This is the Chex mix recipe my mom has always made. It smells soooo good baking in the oven, and it’s the perfect savory snack to offset all the sugary treats around the holidays! 4 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1 ½ teaspoons seasoning salt ¾ teaspoon garlic powder ½ teaspoon onion powder 6 [...]

One-of-a-Kind Valentine

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on February 10th, 2012 under Creative Tags: , , ,  •  7 Comments

Daniel and I don’t normally celebrate Valentine’s Day. Terrible, I know. It’s right before my birthday, and he works long hours in February getting ready for GDC, so we usually just skip it. But this year I’m demanding a proper Valentine’s Day celebration complete with a box of chocolates! We’re celebrating this weekend, so I thought [...]

Pumpkin Frozen Yogurt

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on November 3rd, 2011 under Recipes Tags: , , ,  •  5 Comments

I needed something sweet to distract me from all the leftover Halloween candy, so I was happy when I discovered this pumpkin frozen yogurt recipe. I was all set to make it, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed like it might not taste that great. The pumpkin to yogurt ratio [...]

Homemade Almond Granola

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on April 20th, 2011 under Recipes Tags: , , , ,  •  7 Comments

My Mom gave me this granola recipe, and it is so good! She recommends eating it with almond milk poured over the top instead of regular old cow’s milk. You could even throw in some dried cranberries or raisins after you bake it. Yum. 4 cups rolled oats 1/4 cup wheat germ 1 cup sliced [...]

Grammy Bread

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on January 18th, 2011 under Recipes Tags: , , , , , ,  •  8 Comments

When I got married my Grandmother (aka Grammy) filled a notebook for me with page after page of her best recipes. It’s one of my favorite wedding gifts. I tried out her bread recipe over the weekend. She titled it “hot rolls,” but to me it will always be “Grammy Bread!” Just the smell of [...]

Chicken Pot Pie

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on November 23rd, 2010 under Recipes Tags: , , , , ,  •  11 Comments

I’m not a chicken pot pie connoisseur, but this recipe makes the best pot pie I’ve ever tasted. A turkey pot pie would be a great way to make use of post-Thanksgiving turkey leftovers, don’t you think? I’m heading to Wilmington to visit the in-laws. Happy Thanksgiving! 1 lb. chicken breasts, cubed 1 cup sliced carrots 1 cup frozen green [...]

Raspberry Ice Cream

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on September 17th, 2010 under Recipes Tags: , ,  •  2 Comments

I made raspberry ice cream. I used a basic vanilla recipe and threw in a few cups of blended raspberries. It tastes delicious, but unfortunately after sitting in the freezer overnight it’s rock hard! I think the juice from the raspberries changed the ice cream’s texture. Maybe next time I won’t blend the raspberries so [...]

Fresh Strawberry Sorbet

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on August 17th, 2010 under Recipes Tags: , , , ,  •  2 Comments

I made this for some friends over the weekend, and it was gone in a matter of minutes. They practically licked the bowl! It probably would have tasted even better if my strawberries weren’t humongous mutant zombie strawberries. Next time I’m going to try it with blackberries. 1 cup sugar 1 cup water 1/4 cup [...]

Homemade Hot Fudge

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on August 6th, 2010 under Recipes Tags: , , ,  •  8 Comments

You might hate me for sharing this recipe. This hot fudge is so scrumptious and so easy to make that you’ll start making it daily, and after a week or two your pants won’t fit anymore. Consider yourself warned. A friend’s mom always made this when we were kids, and I had to get the [...]
