Strawberry Picking

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on May 30th, 2013 under Personal Tags: , , , ,  •  16 Comments

Daniel and I went strawberry picking last weekend. The weather was glorious, and there were so many perfectly ripe berries that I felt guilty only filling one bucket and leaving the rest behind. Strawberries are God’s solution to my insatiable sweet tooth, and Daniel nearly had to drag me out of the field because I [...]

Flower Sketch

Well, I guess it’s the time of year when I bombard you with flower photos! Daniel got me flowers over the weekend (aww). They’re so pretty that I couldn’t help but snap some photos, and then I couldn’t help but sketch them.

It’s Raining

I always struggle with motivation on rainy days, especially cold rainy days. Today I summoned all my will power,  drank a steaming mug of cocoa (piled high with marshmallows of course), and grabbed my camera to get myself going. Such beautiful ripples and raindrops, although I’d trade them for snowflakes in a heartbeat!

Spider Appreciation Day

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on September 6th, 2012 under Design Inspiration Tags: , , , ,  •  21 Comments

This time each year our home is shrouded in spider webs. Hundreds of spiders flock to our house at night to build webs in the light of our great room window where there are moths aplenty. It’s kind of inconvenient to walk into a spider web every time I step out my door, but I [...]

Fresh Figs

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on July 2nd, 2012 under Recipes Tags: , , , , ,  •  36 Comments

Before today I had never eaten a fresh fig. I’d been wanting to try one for a long time (since I figured Fig Newtons probably didn’t do them justice), but whenever I found them for sale they were all smooshy and rotten. Finally I found some ripe figs to try. It turns out that after [...]

Eno River

Craziness has been going on at Daniel’s office this week, so he took the day off. Considering that it was 75 degrees today (In June! That never happens here!) we packed a picnic lunch, and went hiking at Eno River State Park in Durham, NC. It was beautiful and deserted on a Tuesday afternoon. I [...]

Yard Work

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on August 23rd, 2011 under Home + Garden Tags: , , ,  •  7 Comments

When you live in North Carolina and you’re blessed with highs in the low 80s on an August day, it’s a crime not to spend the day outside. I decided to pick up all the debris that has been accumulating in our yard. It was probably stupid of me to clean up the yard considering Hurricane [...]

Photo 101

I have a confession to make. Until a few weeks ago I knew nothing about photography. Words like f-stop, aperture, exposure, and ISO meant nothing to me. I put my camera in auto mode, turned off the flash, and had to take tons of photos in order to get a few nice looking shots. I [...]

Tartelette

Posted by Amanda (wit & whistle) on June 16th, 2011 under Design Inspiration Tags: , , , ,  •  4 Comments

I was going to make a berry cobbler this week, but all my fresh berries turned to mush before I could use them. Don’t you hate it when that happens? So instead I’m satisfying my berry craving by drooling over the photography on the Tartelette blog. I think Helene’s food photography is the best I have [...]

Back to the Future

This morning I came across the photography of Irina Werning, and I had to share this amazing project with you. Irina had her subjects reenact old photographs of themselves, and she precisely recreated the images. Check out the complete project right here. It’s so interesting to see how people age, but it’s also a little [...]
