Washi Tape Sketchbook Cover

I ran out of blank pages in my sketchbook, so I picked up a new one today. In college I had a professor who required us to decorate our sketchbook covers, and I’m going to start doing that again. Since I’ve had Danni’s washi tape notebook in the back of my mind for a while, I grabbed my new sketchbook and pulled out my tape stash. It was a bit tedious to cut all these little triangles, but I think my new sketchbook looks pretty sweet.

Now the scary part… filling the first page!

Ooh, good idea! I just started a new sketchbook and it looks super boring. I should try this. As for filling the first page? I always skip the first 2 pages or so… It’s probably cheating, but helps me get over the fear of drawing something really ugly and having to look at it every time I open it up to sketch.

I do that sometimes too Casey! It’s weird, but it really does help.

I love how clean, yet artistic it turned out!
Where do you usually get your sketchbooks? I’ve been looking for the spiral kind but all the places I’ve looked are out of stock.

I get mine at Michael’s, but I’ll bet you could order them online from Dick Blick or Jerry’s Artarama.

    It’s beautiful !
How many time did you spent cutting all these triangles ?
Thansk for linking Danni’s blog post, I didn’t knew it and I enjoyed !
    Have a nice day :-)

Yes, I love Danni’s blog. It’s one of my favorites! Cutting and applying all the triangles probably took me 45 minutes or so. :)

I really love your little comment about the scary part! Ah, I have that problem too! The problem for me is that I really like having those nice expensive sketchbooks which makes it even worse! I’m too afraid to mess up! So I have a cheap book to doodle in. I need to get over my fear!

My one professor was ‘so horrible’! We had to buy a fresh notebook and we had to fill it up with assignments that he would collect on Thursdays (this class was two hours long on Tuesdays and Thursdays). We weren’t allowed to touch the first two pages of the notebook and our last assignment was to fill that page.

It was was pretty much a quarter of our final grade in the class and if he saw you draw on it before he assigned it to us, he would put an x on the corner of the page and tell you to redo it on the second page. Most nerve wrecking thing ever and now I never draw on the first two pages.

But besides that! Your notebook looks gorgeous! You did an amazing job.

Geez, that sounds traumatic! I think you need sketchbook therapy, haha. ;)

I am always nervous about writing on that first page. I usually flip my book over and upside down and start at the back. It seems less scary that way…. or something. Love your cover, it looks awesome!

Great project! I’m a teacher and one of the first things I do in the year is give them the opportunity to decorate their notebooks. They turn out adorable and it really makes it their own.

This is adorable! I love how you decided to cut the tape in to triangles! The abstract pattern you created is so visually interesting. Very creative :-)

Hello! When I click your RSS button it leads me to a page of code that says “This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.” at the top. You have such a lovely blog and I would love to add it to my RSS feed. Keep me posted when its fixed so I can add you!

Hmm.. that’s strange. When I click it it takes me right to the RSS feed! I just changed the syntax of the link a bit, so maybe it will work for you now. I’ll email you as well just in case you don’t check the comments. :)

I love your comments more than I love chocolate (almost).
