Over the past few years I’ve been trying to gradually mix a few mid-century modern pieces into our living room. My birthday present came a few days early, and I think it’s the missing piece. Just look at those sleek flared legs and beautiful button tufts! It’s one of those classic pieces that will last a life time.
The fabric looks charcoal grey from a distance but has flecks of brown, grey, beige, blue, and white up close, so it will go with any color scheme I can possibly imagine. The cushions will hold their shape well since they’re quite firm, and the chair is so wide that I can sit with my legs crossed and my knees don’t touch the sides (quite a feat considering I’m 5′ 10″). I was going to replace our love seat with this chair, but for now I think I like having both in the room. It’s a little more crowded, but it’s inviting to have so many comfy seating options.
Daniel claims this is the ugliest chair he’s ever seen, but I’m so in love with it! Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to have a husband who gives me free rein when it comes to decorating our home (even when he doesn’t love my choices). He doesn’t care what color I paint the walls or what style I gravitate toward, as long as he has a comfortable couch to stretch out on. Remind me to give him a big smooch when he gets home from work.
(If you’re wondering, this is the Taylor Chair from Thrive in the Cordova Eclipse fabric. I requested fabric swatches before ordering, and Thrive emailed me a sweet coupon code. I’m not sure if they will always do that, but it’s worth a try if you’re furniture shopping!)
I love it! And Happy Early Birthday! I’ve just heard about Thrive a few days ago and I’m quite obsessed with a couple of their sofas – I’m loving mid-century mod right now too. :)
Not ugly at all…it’s beautiful! I have one of those husbands, too. Super fortunate.
Oh I love it, it’s so beautiful ! It would be nice for my knitting sessions ;-)
GORGEOUS! your hubby doesn’t know what he’s talking about (except, he kind of does because he has yielded the house decor to you :)
Love it! And, I especially love it paired with that chartreuse throw. And, thanks for the heads up about Thrive…fun to find a new site.
I love that chair! It comes in so many colors! I’m really liking the yellow one :)
where did you get that zombie sign?! it’s perfect. the chair is gorgeous, too. love it.
I got it from Yee-Haw (http://yeehawindustries.com). They have closed shop since then, but check out Kristen’s comment below, she says they have a Kickstarter campaign!
You are lucky indeed! My husband and I have completely different styles and sometimes it’s so hard to find middle ground! The chair is beautiful and I know my husband would say it is ugly too… Oh, these guys just don’t understand anything about chairs! ;)
Oh, it’s such a beautiful piece! I love the splayed legs!
I probably would never pick this piece for myself, but it is beautiful in your home. I especially like the first photo.
What a great post! I love that chair. xx. McKenna Lou

Your husband is cray-cray – that chair is awesome.
I love it! I always love seeing pictures of your home decor. So inspiring! I love the pillow covers you added to your shop and think you should add more home decor items… maybe some table runners? That yellow pillow cover may just end up inspiring an entire room in my house one day! And, happy birthday!
Thanks so much Holly! I’ll have to see what other home decor items I can come up with. :)
That is one handsome chair!
It looks perfect! I love the dark tweed look! And the fact that you can sit cross-legged in this? Priceless!
OK, Daniel doesn’t know what he’s talking about! That chair is beautiful! LOVE the shape and fabric! I think it was a great choice! I’m also fortunate enough to have one of those husbands that gives me free rein as well. Aren’t we lucky girls??
Yes!!
I was just looking at some Thrive pieces. They seem like such a great company and that chair is awesome. The fabric has all of the colors I genrally choose for my decorating scheme! Love your style.
Yes, I was really impressed with Thrive—the quality, delivery time, and free shipping!
Happy birthday! Oh I love this chair so much! Oh yes, the famous Zombies poster that I wrote about last year. Sadly Yee-Haw Industries who created and produced the print has closed up shop and the print is no longer available on their Etsy site. But you can still get it from their Kickstarter campaign to start anew in CA! My husband wrote a novel about zombies, so it was the perfect gift when I saw it on your house tour on Design*Sponge. Still love how you styled it in the frame over the fireplace! :)
I know, I was so sad to see them close. It’s awesome that they are running a Kickstarter campaign now! Thanks for the tip!
I love the chair and the Zombie framed print in the background reminds me of my daughter, she is 20 and has a zombie fettish???? I don’t know why. But she is sweet and she would love your style.
I love mid-century modern, especially if it’s mixed successfully with other styles, and I love this chair. Is it new, what’s the brand, and where did you get it?
The info to purchase the chair is right under the photos. :)
I love the color of this chair! I recently bought a gray sofa and its my favorite new piece! P. S. have fun being 29. It was one of my favorite years!

I love love love that chair! I really like that the fabric is so dimensional too. I have 2 chairs( http://www.jjmodern.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/ceiling-fan_19.png ) that need to be reupholstered and I think that fabric like that would look fantastic.
Amazing space Jennifer! I love it!
I just love this chair and the fabric you chose! I had to laugh a little when you said Daniel thought it was ugly because my bf does the same thing. I guess guys just don’t understand how awesome mid-century furniture is :)
There is nothing better than a huge armchair that you can curl up in. I’ve got one too. It’s bright green and I love it!
Love love the chair. I also love the carpet. Where is that from
I think I got it from http://rugsusa.com
I know this is an older post, but where did you get that yellow throw? I’m looking for something similar and love the fading effect it has.
It was from West Elm. It looks like they’re discontinued now, but they have one color left on sale! :) http://www.westelm.com/products/softest-throw-ombre-t400/?cm_src=AutoSchRel
I’m thinking about buying the Taylor chair too! How has yours held up over the years? And pros and cons to share?
I’m wondering how the fabric held up for you. I bought a sofa in this fabric less than a year ago and it’s already wearing/pilling. Single professional without children or pets, I am disappointed.
