I completed another goal for this year! I just finished up a pottery class at my local arts center. Now I have a whole new appreciation for potters. Throwing pots is crazy hard and there is so much that can go wrong. It’s a small miracle when a piece turns out as intended.
I made a bunch of different things over the course of the class. The instructor showed us various hand-building and throwing techniques and let us make whatever we could dream up, so it was pretty much my ideal class. I’m planning to get an open studio membership so that I can continue using the local clay studio. I have a million more ideas that need to get out of my head and into the kiln!
Tackling new creative endeavors and learning new skills are important parts of my process as I create new products for Wit & Whistle, because variety helps keep my creative juices flowing. Are you like that too? If so, you should see what classes are available at your local arts center. I was amazed at the facilities we have here in Cary, and I regret that I didn’t start taking advantage of them sooner!
This studded mug turned out to be one of my favorites. I can’t wait to sip tea out of a mug I made myself!
I also love how my mini tripod planter turned out. I’ve had this idea in my head for months, and it was such a relief to finally be able to make it happen.
I kept the very first bowl I threw so I could compare it to my last. It’s nice to see progress!
