Mother’s Day Cards & Sketches

I’ve got some new Mother’s Day cards in the shop and all the old favorites, too. I thought I’d share the new cards with the sketches that led to the final products. I hope you like them!

I love the “loin fruit” card, because it works for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. This card went through a couple phases—first this sketch I shared last month, then I was thinking of incorporating strawberries, but I ended up with peaches and bananas. They just seemed more “loiny” to me, hehe.

The “some animals” card is another one that’s great for Mom or Dad, assuming neither of them ate you. This card is actually a redesign of an old Mother’s Day card I used to sell…back in 2010?! That’s practically vintage.

This is the first card I’ve made specifically for mother-in-laws! Let me know if you’d like to see a “you’re not so bad for a father-in-law” version for Father’s Day.

Nice…I like the floral one and am wondering how you painted it? Did you and with what. I’ve got this new love for painting and just want to know.

I did paint the mother-in-law card! I used gouache. I watered the gouache down a bit more that you’re “supposed” to, so it looks a little watercolor-y. ;)

Amanda – I bought the “thanks for not eating me” card for my mom for Mother’s Day a few years back, and her reaction was priceless! To this day she tells me it’s the best card she ever received and no card has ever made her laugh that much :) Just wanted to pass along the compliment and say thank you for making it!

Whoa! That is so great to hear, Laura! I’m thrilled that your mom enjoyed it so much. You made my day. :) Thank you for keeping up with Wit & Whistle all these years!

I love your comments more than I love chocolate (almost).
