We’re Moving

It’s true, we’re moving! If you’ve hung around my blog long enough you might love our quirky A-frame house as much as I do. I spent years fixing this place up, I started Wit & Whistle here, and I’ve spent nearly every day living and working here for 9 years. I adore this house along with its various oddities (here’s looking at you, kitchen roof). Living in this wonderfully weird old 70’s A-frame has been part of my identity for so long. I’m sad to leave, but for many reasons it’s time for our family to move on and let someone new fall in love with this home.

The house will go on the market sometime in August, so if you know anyone in the Raleigh/Cary area that would love this place send them my way! (Especially if it’s someone who appreciates things like panoramic forest views, exposed brick, vintage hex tile, and sprawling rose bushes.) We’ll be moving to a beautiful newly built (but completely un-quirky) Raleigh home nearby. Once we get unpacked, quirk-i-fying will be top priority. I’m excited about the new decorating challenge—adding character and charm to new construction is not something I’ve tackled before. Give me tips please!

I’ve thoroughly documented my house here on the blog over the years, and I think a round-up of my favorite house pics is in order. I love you forever, house! <3

OH NO! It will be so sad to say goodbye to your lovely home. Goodbyes are the worst – but a new, fresh canvas to work on… thats exciting! Can’t wait to see what you get up to. A new chapter :)

Goodbyes are the worst! I never thought I’d get so attached to a house. Hopefully I’ll feel the same way about the new place soon enough. :)

I’m looking forward to it too! It will be weird starting with a clean slate!

Wow. My fiance and I are in the market right now for our first house in the W Raleigh/Cary area, and I’ve adored all your home improvement projects. Not sure if this will be in our ideal price range / commute distance, but we’ll absolutely be keeping an eye out! Best of luck on your moving preparations :)

Would you mind sharing a bit about how you buy a new home before selling the old one? We’re desperate for a lil more space but we’ve never sold a house before!

I’m not really qualified to offer home selling tips (especially since I haven’t sold a house before either). Your best bet would be to meet with a realtor and ask a bunch of questions to figure out your options. :)

    Hi Amanda,
Just thought I would let you know that there is a local realtor http://carolinaschoicerealestate.com/
that only charge 2.4% not the typical 6%. My friend sold her house with David last month (hers in the $300K range) in just a few days. She had a good experience with them.
I live in western Wake Forest and we are selling too. We chose the $1000 up front and $1000 at closing package with 2.4% to buyers realtor. Our house is in the $500k range. We are currently under contract and close in August. It has been an excellent experience working with them and we get very prompt responses to our questions.
We also met with Linda Craft team but decided that we didn’t need all the bells and whistles like drone pictures- not worth an additional $15k since they are the typical 6%.
Hope you have an easy move!

You’re selling your house! So why am I sad? I have no clue. But I’d buy it from you if I could. I love your house! What about your chickens? Will they be able to move with you??

I’m sad too, it feels like the end of an era! Yes, the chickens can come too. We’ll have a great yard for them at the new house, and enough sun for a vegetable garden finally! :)

Hi! I saw a picture of your living room chair (the gray one) on Pinterest and was wondering where you got it? It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for for my new house!
    Thanks :)
